Scooby-Doo is an American animated mystery comedy series that ran from September 10, 1988 to August 17, 1991. It is a story about a pup and and their human companions who solve mysteries and crimes together, though the pup is reluctant. A total of 30 episodes were aired over four seasons on ABC.

It is the eight edition of the studio’s Scooby Doo franchise. After the first season, an animator of Disney Don Lusk took over production as director and Hanna-Barbera’s most of the staff and Tom Ruegger retired.

It is a pre-teen version of the series, and is a more light-hearted take on monsters. The show was very popular with American audiences in its first run, as well as viewers from other countries where it was broadcast or available to view online.

The gang of Scooby Doo and kids includes A.J., Daphne, Fred, Velma and Shaggy; Scooby Doo is voiced by Don Messick in the original series.

Overview

The gang of Scooby-Doo and kids are very charming and cute throughout the series. It’s the last show to star Don Messick as Scooby Doo. It was run as a half hour program. A.J., Daphne, Fred and Velma are introduced in this series as new members of the gang.

The show was basically about Scooby Doo and kids solving supernatural mystery and other types of crime.

The gang solves mysteries that happen in their hometown, solving crimes which include paranormal events such as monster sightings and haunted houses. The villains in the show were always trying to scare the gang by dressing up in various masks and costumes. The monsters were the most comedic creatures in the show.

Characters of the show

Freddy has a tone of leadership and always solves the mystery. A.J., Velma and Daphne are in charge of looking for clues, while Scooby-Doo is an excellent sleuth at solving mysteries because he has a sixth sense that alerts him to any trouble.

Freddy is also a conspiracy loving kid where as Daphne was silent but charming. A.J., Velma and Daphne were more prominent than Scooby-Doo in solving the puzzles when it comes to logic, observation skills and being formal in their approach of finding clues. Sugie, Shaggy’s sister, is referred as a baby in the series. 

Red Herring would attempt to trouble the gang, bully them and throw them in danger. Though his intentions are always to trouble the gang, he would often get backfired.

In addition, scooby doo was a pup with amazing sense that helps solve mysteries related to monster sightings or haunted houses.

The series was cancelled due to high production costs for other Hanna-Barbera Productions running parallel to A Pup Named Scooby-Doo.

Music in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo

The show had many rock and roll styled songs. A few of the famous songs include “The Scooby Doo Show”, which is a fast paced song that has an upbeat rhythm. The lyrics were featured by Tom Ruegger and music composer, John Debney. 

A pup named Scooby Doo was the first Scooby series to re run on Cartoon Network in 1993. The show continued to air through 2009.

Cast and Development of the series

The cast featuring in Scooby Doo was Casey Kasem as Shaggy Roggers, Don Messick as Scooby Doo, Christina Lange as Velma Dinkley, Kellie Martin as Daphne Blake, and Carl Steven as Freddy Jones.

In 2008 and 2009, the series was re released on two DVD sets entitled A Pup Named Scooby Doo: Complete 1st Season and A Pup Named Scooby Doo: Complete 2nd, 3rd and 4th Seasons. A puppet movie based on this series was released in 2013.

The series was the best animated comedy mystery show that aired between 1988 and 1991.
